`Handlooms of India' showcased

CHENNAI:
The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation (Poompuhar) has organised an exhibition `Handlooms of India' at its showroom on Anna Salai.
The exhibition, which was inaugurated by Padma Subramanyam, Director, Nrithyodaya, will be on till May 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Venkatagiri, Mangalagiri, Kalamkari, Pochampalli and artificial silk saris, Narsapur lace varieties from Andhra Pradesh, Kota sarees and Jaipur bedspreads from Rajasthan, cottons from West Bengal, Maheswari, tie-and-dye saris from Madhya Pradesh, Banaras silk saris, Lucknow chikan, ghagra choli sets from Uttar Pradesh, bandhini from Gujarat, Panipat bedspreads from Haryana, Orissa silk saris, traditional saris and dhotis from Kerala, Madurai sungadi saris, cotton sofa covers and dining table sets from Kanyakumari, Karur handloom varieties, a range of artistic handcrafted handloom products are displayed at the expo.
There is a special discount of 10 to 20 per cent on all handloom items. Poompuhar officials said that buying the handcrafted products would help sustain poor craftsmen.
