Officials told to complete work on two water projects in two months

    BELLARY: President of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat Durgamma on Friday instructed the officials concerned to accord priority to complete two drinking water projects at Kuditini and Kurgodu.

    Presiding over a meeting here to review the progress in the implementation of development works, Ms. Durgamma said funds for the projects had been released and directed the officials to complete the work on them in two months.

    A sum of Rs. 1,200 would be provided to families living below the poverty line for the construction of toilets and there was no dearth of funds for the implementation of the scheme, she said. Executive officers of taluk panchayats were asked to seek the cooperation of the elected representatives to motivate the people to take up the scheme.

    G.S. Shivaswamy, Chief Executive Officer, wanted the officials to identify gram panchayats that would be able to achieve the target to construct toilets and maintain cleanliness with an aim to bag Nirmal Gram Puraskar to be given by the Centre. He asked them to submit a report in 15 days on the toilets constructed in schools and anganwadi centres.

    The Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) was directed to ensure 100 per cent attendance at the Kasturba Residential School for Girls and take steps to begin work on a school at Bommagatta in Sandur taluk.

    The meeting sought a report on the afforestation programme taken up in each gram panchayat in the district. The meeting directed the officials of the Kudligi Taluk Panchayat and an official of the zilla panchayat to look into the allegation that 16 houses sanctioned in 2003-04 were not constructed at Tayakkanahalli in the taluk and submit a report to the panchayat. K.A. Ramalingappa, vice-president, Bheema Nayak, N. Rudragouda, Mohammed Rafiq, chairmen of standing committees, were present.
