`Government has failed on all fronts'

The CPI(M) will launch campaign soon: Manpade

  • Government accused of preventing Muslims from organising urs at Bababudangiri
  • Kumaraswamy urged to take steps to revive defunct cooperative societies
  • Government criticised for not forming a farmers' commission

HASSAN: The coalition Government, which has completed 100 days in office, has failed on all fronts, and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is not in a position to take any decision on his own, member of the State committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxists), Maruthi Manpade, has alleged.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said the CPI(M) was planning to launch an awareness programme in June to educate people on the "failures" of the coalition Government.

    Communal disturbances

The recent communal disturbances in parts of Uttara Kannada, Kolar and Dakshina Kannada districts had created anxiety among the minority community and it was living under fear, he said.

The Government had prevented Muslims from organising urs at Bababudangiri in Chikmagalur district and hurt their sentiments, he added.

Criticising the budget, he said it was "anti-poor" and "anti-farmer". Despite appeals by the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, the Government did not form a farmers' commission as had been constituted by the Union Government.

Stating that the four per cent interest subsidy on loans given to farmers was mere eyewash, he said it would benefit only 22 lakh of the 68 lakh farmers in the State. It would not help in resolving the crisis in the agricultural sector in the State. He urged the Chief Minister to take steps to revive the defunct cooperative organisations.

On the "failure" of the Government in implementing the employment guarantee scheme launched by the Union Government in the five districts of the State, he said the Chief Minister did not review the progress in the implementation of the scheme in the past three months.

Accusing the Government of being "anti-worker", he said the Chief Minister was interested only in safeguarding the interests of industrialists.

    Loan

Referring to the Rs. 18,000-crore loan taken from the Asian Development Bank, he said the State owed Rs. 67,000 crore to the World Bank.

The Government was not making efforts to mobilise resources, he said.

The decision of the Government to spend Rs. 36,000 crore on the development of Bangalore city indicated that it was "pro-urban", he added.
