ALAPPUZHA: District Congress Committee (DCC) president C.R. Jayaprakash has alleged that Left Democratic Front workers have unleashed violence in Haripad, Mararikkulam and Kayamkulam constituencies in the district after the declaration of the Assembly election results on Thursday. Mr. Jayaprakash said a group of persons, allegedly CPI(M) workers, destroyed the election committee office of Haripad MLA B. Babuprasad. — Staff Reporter

Exhibition of drawings

KOZHIKODE: An exhibition of drawings prepared by students based on "Koottu" a collection of poetry of Sathyachandran Poyilkavu will be on show at Sunday Theatre at Public Library at Mananchira on Saturday and Sunday. The show will be inaugurated by artist Francis Kodakadath at a function to be presided over by literary critic M.M. Basheer. "Koottu" is a collection of poetry for children. The drawings were made at summer camp for children. — Special Correspondent

Music festival today

KOZHIKODE: A western music festival organised by Harmony-Kozhikode will open at Town Hall on Saturday. The programme is meant to stimulate interest in children in western classical music. — Special Correspondent

Coin show inaugurated

KOZHIKODE: Historian M.G.S. Narayanan inaugurated an exhibition of coins at the Jubilee Hall in Tali on Friday. The show, organised by Calicut Numismatic Society, will be on till May 14. — Special Correspondent

Body found hanging

Thrissur: The body of a man was found hanging from a tree at Puzhakkal here on Friday. The deceased was identified as Babu, 38, of Chathiyathu House at Kurinjakkal Lane in Ayyanthole. According to the police, the body was found at 5 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Emigration official suspended

NEDUMBASSERY: An emigration sub-inspector at the airport here has been suspended in connection with clearing a Sri Lankan national carrying forged documents to Mumbai, en route Canada, on April 11. Vigneshwara, 33, hailing from Jaffna in Sri Lanka, took an Air-India flight, AI 691, from here to Mumbai. He reportedly missed the connection flight from Mumbai. However, it was also said that he was denied passage after Air-India security staff at the Mumbai airport turned suspicious about his credentials. On further verification, it was found that his passport and visa were forged, following which he was sent back here by the Air-India flight AI 690. — A Correspondent

Plan to build bridge

KOCHI: The Goshree Islands Development Authority has planned to construct a bridge connecting the Thanthonnithuruth island with mainland Ernakulam. Authority sources said its recent general council meeting decided to carry out a feasibility study on the project. Expressions of interest had been invited from agencies willing to undertake a study on the modalities of the project. — Staff Reporter
