Stir threat against move to involve Ministers, MLAs in the process

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Democratic Teachers' Federation has cautioned Government against doing away with counselling for effecting transfer of teachers.

N. Somasekara Sarma, president and M.Gangadhar, general secretary in a statement here on Friday criticised the move to allow legislators to recommend transfers to places of their choice as `undemocratic'. They said it would harm those without political backing.

Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation demanded implementation of transfers only after counselling. K.Venugopal, president, and N.V. Raghavaiah, general secretary in a statement decried what they described as "backdoor method" of effecting transfers.

The organisation would launch an agitation against the move to involve Ministers and legislators in transfer of teachers, they warned.

Andhra Pradesh State Teachers' Union, while backing the call for dharna on May 22 by JACTO on Friday demanded implementation of the process for taking up promotions of junior lecturers.

P. Subba Reddy, president and A. Lakshnan, general secretary in a statement here expressed resentment against the conduct of Intermediate Board officials for delaying the process.
