HYDERABAD: I. Ram Reddy, head cashier at Karimnagar main branch of the State Bank of Hyderabad, has been nominated Director of the bank with effect from April 28. Two landmines recovered in agency

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Police on Friday morning recovered two landmines at Kampamanupakalu village in G.K. Veedhi mandal of the agency area of the district. IT officials serious on assault episode

Kakinada: Director-General of Income-Tax (investigation) J.L. Giridhar has taken a serious view of the assaulting of IT officials when they tried to conduct searches in the house of financiers in G. Mamidada village on April 27, according to local IT officials here. They said they had drawn his attention during his visit to Rajahmundry on Friday about the unsavoury incident. - Correspondent

Sloth bear injures man

KURNOOL: A 60-year-old man was injured by a sloth bear at Kotakonda in Rudravaram mandal of Kurnool district on Friday. According to reports, Swami Das went into the forest to collect tendu leaves along with others when a sloth bear attacked him. The animal ran away as others raised alarm. Sloth bears have been giving sleepless nights to people in the villages close to the Nallamala forest in Rudravaram, Allagadda and Mahanandi mandals. So far, four persons were killed and three others sustained serious injuries in the bear attack. - Staff Reporter

Sureedu killing: 12 suspects in police custody

ANANTAPUR: Twelve more suspects in the murder case of TDP leader and former legislator K. Suryapratap Reddy were learnt to have been taken into custody by the police on Friday and a few days ago. According to the sources seven suspects were said to have been taken into custody four days back and another five suspects were learnt to have been taken into custody by the Tadipatri police. - Staff Reporter

Huge fire accident in medical agency

ANANTAPUR: A fire accident occurred in a medical agency on the Suryanagar Road here in the small hours of Friday allegedly due to electrical short-circuit resulted in a burning of medicines in huge quantity. The fire was put off within half-an-hour by the fire tenders. Medicines stored in the agency were burnt completely in the accident. - Staff Reporter

SPMVV all set to get an engineering college

TIRUPATI: Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) will soon be opening SPMVV College of Engineering and Technology which will be the first-ever university college run exclusively for women. Vice-Chancellor Veena Noble Dass on Friday announced that the varsity had secured the `No objection certificate' from the Government and the AICTE. The college will be offering B.Tech with specialisation in computer science and engineering, industrial biotechnology, IT and electronics and communications engineering. Protest against frequent power cuts

ANANTAPUR: Activists of the TDP and the CPI laid a siege to the Transco's ADE office at Guntakal on Thursday protesting against the indiscriminate power cuts being imposed on the town and surrounding villages for more than a week now. Civil services exam tomorrow

TIRUPATI: All is set for the civil services examination on May 14 here. The exam will be held in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam also. Haystacks destroyed

in major fire

KURNOOL: In a major fire accident at Kotekal near Yemmiganur in Kurnool district, 30 haystacks and two huts were destroyed on Friday. The loss was estimated at Rs 3 lakhs. High temperature coupled with wind was said to be the reason for the large-scale loss. Fire tenders rushed to the place and put out the flames. - Staff Reporter

Free medical camps

KURNOOL: Kurnool district branch of AP Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association proposed to conduct free medical camps every Sunday in one of the association hospitals. The executive committee of the Association conducted its meeting under the chairmanship of its president Ramana here on Friday. Association secretary M.
