Staff Reporter

Candidates to be trained at RTC zonal training college, Nellore

TIRUPATI: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has taken up a massive programme to recruit drivers and conductors on contract basis to fill in the several posts that had fallen vacant a long time back.

The administrative office here is teeming with applicants from all over since the last three days.

In the recruitment drive spread over a period of two years, the RTC had received 4,023 applications for the post of drivers last year, from which 1,300 candidates had been screened and 383 selected and absorbed into service. From the remaining 2,670 applications, it is planning to fill up 195 posts now, which includes 35 for Tirupati region and as many as 160 for Ongole.

It may be noted that 250 driver candidates had already been absorbed recently, while 96 are undergoing training. "The present recruitment drive will help fill the gaps and enable the corporation run additional services," a senior RTC official said.

The screening and testing phases are simultaneously on, where the applicants are being checked for their driving licences, adherence to age and height limit, etc., after which a medical test is to be conducted. The selected candidates will be exposed to a comprehensive skill upgradation programme at the RTC's zonal training college, Nellore. The entire process is expected to be over in a couple of months.
