DMK scored over AIADMK in direct contests too

Of 96 constituencies won by DMK, 81 were captured by defeating AIADMK


CHENNAI : In the head-to-head clash, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has scored over its arch rival, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, in about two-thirds of the Assembly constituencies.

The two parties, leading their respective fronts, faced each other in 115 constituencies across the State. They bagged the top two slots in all the seats. Except in about half-a-dozen constituencies, the debutant Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam finished third.

Of the 96 constituencies won by the DMK, 81 were captured, beating the AIADMK. Similarly, 34 out of 61 seats bagged by the AIADMK were from the direct-clash constituencies.

For the DMK, the notable victories came from Thousand Lights, Tambaram, Ranipet, Katpadi, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Pennagaram, Salem-II, Veerapandi, Erode, Madurai Central, Lalgudi, Kumbakonam, Sattur and Kanniyakumari.

M. K. Stalin, Durai Murugan, Ko.Si. Mani, Veerapandi S. Arumugam, K. Ponmudi, P.T.R. Palanivel Rajan, and Suresh Rajan were among the successful nominees of the DMK who took on their AIADMK rivals.

As for the AIADMK, five out of seven constituencies won in Chennai witnessed direct fight with the DMK. What surprised everyone was the party's performance in T. Nagar, Triplicane and Mylapore.

Andipatti, Bargur, Pollachi, Gobichettipalayam, Periyakulam, Natham, Orathanad, Pudukottai, Vilathikulam and Tiruchendur were among the other "successful" constituencies for the AIADMK in the direct clash with the DMK.

Jayalalithaa, M. Thambidurai, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, K.A. Sengottaiyan, and R. Viswanathan were some of the prominent winners of the party.

In 63 constituencies, the DMDK's vote share was higher than the victory margin. Of them, the AIADMK finished second in 38 constituencies and the DMK in 25.

Thousand Lights, Villivakkam, Arkonam, Villupuram, Sankarapuram, Sankari, Coonoor, Sholavandan, Kadaladi, Aruppukottai, Triplicane, Bargur, Pollachi, Sedapatti, Usilampatti and Pudukottai were among this category of the constituencies.
