Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: A special meeting of the Academic Council of Mangalore University on Friday approved the syllabi of the proposed credit-based semester scheme for bachelor degree programmes in the faculties of arts, science and commerce.

The meeting also approved the draft regulations (amended) on the proposed post-graduate course titled "Earth Science and Resource Management'' in the faculty of science under the Department of Marine Geology. This two-year M.Sc course will be introduced by re-placing the two-year M.Sc course in Marine Geology. The draft regulations amended for the replacement of the course were approved.

The council approved the amendments brought to the draft regulations governing the credit-based semester scheme for bachelor degree programmes in the faculties of arts, science and commerce.

As per the amendments, General and Communicative English will be taught for all degree (undergraduate) courses as a language subject. As per the proposal, this will be taught from the first semester to the fourth semester under the credit-based semester scheme for undergraduate degree courses.

Another amendment was related to the introduction of a foundation course. The element "gender equality'' was added to the course along with Indian Constitution, Human Rights and Environment. Hence, the foundation course will cover these four elements.

K.M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor, presided over the meeting.
