GUNTUR: Teachers belonging to 14 organisations and unions from various parts of Guntur district launched a relay hunger strike protesting against the attitude of the district education officials in implementing the promotions as per merit-cum-roster method. The hunger strike was launched in the campsite set up opposite the Collectorate. Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organisations (JATCO) steering committee member G. Prabhudas said that the district education officials have prepared the seniority list of secondary grade teachers according to the merit principle as against the merit-cum-roster method in force. As a result of this, the promotions of 72 eligible teachers belonging to the district were affected.
