Agonising wait at level crossing
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
Crossing the Ambattur level crossing adjacent to the railway station is a risky proposition for residents of this north western suburb.
As the level crossing is open only rarely, pedestrians and commuters have to face long waits to get across or take a chance on getting around it by other means.
The foot over bridge is of little use, said residents, as it does not provide access to the platforms on the station. Pedestrians have to cross the four tracks and re-enter the railway station from the other side.
The market zone extends on either side of the crossing and traders often arrive heavily laden with goods on local trains. Peak hours witness a rush of commuters on foot, cycle and two-wheeler through the small wicket gate by the side of the crossing.
