HYDERABAD: Buoyed by the success of surveillance cameras at Secunderabad Railway Station, the South Central System (SCR) is planning to introduce the facility at four major stations in the State. Hyderabad, Kazipet, Khammam and Warangal would have the system by March next year, according to a senior official. This system consists of seven fast dome cameras with 16 channel Internet protocol enabled digital video recorder, two display monitors and key board with a joy stick and is interconnected with data cables and radio frequency. The recorder can store the data for 15 days and can replay data of any day, any specific time through the 16 channels from its memory. The fast dome cameras are of high resolution having a rotation capacity of 360 degrees and can sweep the entire area through the lens with in-depth range of 1 km.
Strategic points
Initially, the fast dome cameras were installed at seven different locations in Secunderabad Railway Station, including platforms, entry and exit points, of the 16 selected locations. "Till date, we have set up the dome cameras at 11 strategic points in the station and are planning five more shortly," said Chief Public Relations Officer, SCR, P.Krishnaiah. The system controls are housed in a surveillance control room that is manned round-the-clock by the Railway Protection Force personnel. "The system is so specialised that it can help in tracing the number plate of the vehicle parked anywhere in the Secunderabad Station," adds Mr. Krishnaiah. Though the surveillance system is primarily installed to keep a constant vigil on the movement of people, it also helps in crowd control and checking the behaviour of railway staff towards passengers. And officials insist that it has been yielding good results.
