KOCHI: The Navy has constructed a `Kunhali Marakkar Memorial Stupa' on the compound of the Kunhali Marakkar Museum, at Iringal village, between Payyoli and Vadakara, in Kozhikode. This is part of the Navy's efforts to enthuse the citizens to pay greater heed to India's rich maritime legacy. This memorial `stupa' will be dedicated to the nation on May 17 by M.K. Narayanan, National Security Adviser, in the presence of Vice-Admiral S.C.S. Bangara, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command. It was consequent to the visit of Admiral Arun Prakash, Chief of Naval Staff, to the Kunhali Marakkar Museum that a decision was taken to erect a memorial on the site of the existing museum, in memory of the Kunhali Marakkars.
