KOCHI: The Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA) has planned to construct a bridge connecting the Thanthonnithuruth island with mainland Ernakulam.
Agencies invited
Authority sources said its recent general council meeting decided to carry out a feasibility study on the project. Expressions of interest had been invited from agencies willing to undertake a study on the modalities of the project. The selected agency must submit technical proposals on how to go about the project. "Once the bridge comes through, Thanthonnithuruth, 220 metres from the mainland, will become part of the city. It will then hold greater potential than Marine Drive. On coming to know of the proposed bridge, a project to construct a multiplex has already been submitted to the corporation. Holders of large tracts of land have promised to meet the cost of laying roads through their area." Work would start only three months after the feasibility report was ready. The cost of the bridge would depend on the alignment, the length and the type of soil in the area, sources added.
