SEEKING WATER: Panniyan Raveendran, MP, addressing a dharna organised by the Poojappura Government Quarters Residents' Association in front of Karamana Water Authority office in the city on Friday.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Urgent steps will be taken to solve water shortage at the Government quarters in Melarannoor, said V. Sivankutty, CPI(M) leader and MLA-designate. He was speaking after inaugurating a dharna organised by the Poojappura NGO Quarters Residents' Welfare Association in front of the Karamana Water Authority office on Friday. A number of dharnas demanding adequate supply of drinking water had already been staged in the city. There should be a change in the situation. Drinking water was not something that had to be provided according to any timetable, he said. Mr. Sivankutty said officials could not run away from their responsibilities citing technical difficulties. Like all other areas of the city Melarannoor should also receive water, he said. Mr. Sivankutty informed that the superintending engineer of Water Authority had promised that necessary steps would be taken at the earliest to find a solution to the problem. Panniyan Raveendran, MP, addressed the gathering. The dharna was also attended by S. Unnikrishnan, councillor, residents' association president R. Vijayan, and secretary U.M. Nahaas.
