Two alleged cheats arrested

NEW DELHI: Two persons allegedly involved in cheating people and stealing their mobile phones have been arrested by the South Delhi police. The police have recovered 11 stolen mobile phones from them and solved 20 cases of mobile phone theft.

According to the police, Rakesh Bhatura, a resident of Panchsheel Park in Malviya Nagar, had placed an advertisement for sale of his car on April 23. One of the callers introduced him as Yogesh from Defence Colony. He came to his residence and settled the deal at Rs. 2.15 lakhs. However, he said he wanted to consult his father and one of his friends before going through with the deal.

The man then claimed that the battery in his mobile phone was low and borrowed the phone of Mr. Bhatura's son. While talking on some number he sneaked out of the house and disappeared.

One held for double murder

NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly killing an insurance agent and his friend, whose bodies were recovered from a house at Sarita Vihar in South Delhi on Wednesday evening.

According to the police, the bodies of Akhtar Afindi (52) and Jamshed Alam (35) were discovered when one Qasim called up the police on Wednesday saying Akhtar was missing since May 8. The police reached Akhtar's house at F-block in Shahin Bagh. The main door was open but the bathroom and the kitchen, from which foul smell was emanating, were locked. The police then broke open the kitchen and bathroom doors.

Qasim also told the police that on the night of May 8 he was going to meet Akhtar when he bumped into Mohammad Wasim, a resident of Abul Fazal Enclave. Wasim told him that Akhtar had gone to sleep after which both returned to their homes. The police then mounted surveillance on Wasim's house and arrested him on Thursday evening. During interrogation, Wasim allegedly confessed to having killed Akhtar and Jamshed.

MMS scandal

NEW DELHI: Three young men have been detained at Keshav Puram in North-West Delhi on charges of preparing a sleazy Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) video clip along with a 16-year-old girl.

Though senior police officers remained tight-lipped about the matter, sources said the accused, one of who is the son of an area businessman, had prepared the video clip several months ago and shared it with his friends.

After a complaint was lodged at Keshav Puram police station in this regard, the police rounded up the accused.

DLA held for

taking bribe

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Deputy Legal Advisor (DLA), working with its Anti-Corruption Branch in the Capital, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 4 lakhs from an employee of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL).

The CBI said the accused had promised certain favours to the IGL employee in connection with a case registered against him.

Bail denied to housing scam accused

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has rejected the bail plea of a man accused of involvement in the Rs.4,000-crore Co-operative Group Housing Societies (CGHS) scam, on the ground that investigations in the cases against him were still pending.
