NEW DELHI: Within days of Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh lamenting the indifferent attitude of the Delhi Jal Board officials, senior Congress legislator from Ghonda, Bhisham Sharma on Friday gave notice for "breach of privilege and contempt of the House'' against Delhi Jal Board CEO Arun Mathur and some other senior officials for showing disrespect to the Chair. In his notice to the Assembly Speaker moved under Rule 66 and 67 of Rule of Procedures of Delhi Assembly, Mr. Sharma stated that he had come to know through newspapers and other reports that the Jal Board CEO had failed to turn up for the meeting convened by the Assembly Speaker though he had been intimated earlier. Instead, the CEO along with his senior officials had gone to attend a meeting convened by Outer Delhi MP Sajjan Kumar without informing the Speaker about his inability to attend the meeting. Further, Mr. Sharma noted that the Speaker continued to wait for the CEO but was informed by some junior official that he would not be attending the meeting. He said it was unfortunate that Mr. Mathur had shown disrespect to the Chair. In view of the seriousness of the situation and the indifferent attitude of the senior official towards the Speaker and the elected representatives, the matter should be handed over to the Privileges Committee of the House so that appropriate proceedings could be initiated against the official concerned.
