VISAKHAPATNAM: A community interaction programme will be organised by the Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters (AP) to educate fishermen against fishing near offshore drilling areas, prohibited places, disaster preparedness and related issues. The programme, to be organised in coordination with the local administration, Fisheries Department officials and NGOs, will be held in all coastal districts between May 15 and 30 as per the following schedule.
The schedule
The programme will be held in Srikakulam on May 15 and Vizianagaram on the next day. It would be held in Visakhapatnam on May 17 and 18, East Godavari on May 19 and 20 and West Godavari on May 22 and 23, Krishna district on May 24 and 25, Guntur on May 26, Prakasam on May 27 and Nellore on May 29 and 30. The programme is also meant to bring awareness among fishermen about women and child health, education, family planning and child labour, clean seas and beaches, Government welfare schemes and conservation of endangered marine species. The Deputy Inspector General D.B. Prasad, Commander Indian Coast Guard District HQ-6 (AP) appealed to the fishermen community to utilise the opportunity.
