MALAPPURAM: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) will soon appoint a committee to find ways to fill the backlog of jobs for minority communities as mentioned in the Narendran Commission report. Speaking at his maiden press conference after the Assembly elections here on Saturday, LDF convener Paloli Mohammed Kutty said an expert panel would be set up in two or three weeks to study the issue. Blaming the outgoing United Democratic Front (UDF) Government for "cheating the people" by offering special recruitment, Mr. Mohammed Kutty said the LDF did not believe in special recruitment. He said the support of various organisations, including the Jamaat-e-Islami and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), had added glitter to the LDF win in Kerala, though the Front could have won the battle alone. However, there would be no special package or favour for the parties that helped the LDF in the elections, he said. "We will consider all genuine demands and grievances of all people." The LDF convener said PDP chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany was facing what the CPI(M) faced some years ago. "We do not agree with Mr. Maudany. We do not agree to his incarceration without charge-sheet either," he said. Rejecting the statement of outgoing Chief Minister Oommen Chandy that the LDF had come to power by aligning with communal forces, Mr. Mohammed Kutty said his front had never sought the support of any communal party.
Chandy flayed
"We do not agree or align with those organisations that gave us votes. Rather they voted for us agreeing with our policies and views. It is a cheap statement by Mr. Chandy." The CPI(M) leader said only efficiency, not communal or parochial factors, would be considered while selecting Ministers in the LDF Cabinet.
