NALGONDA: Home Minister K. Jana Reddy has renewed his call urging Maoists to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream. Addressing a meeting at Miryalaguda, where he distributed rewards and assets to 18 surrendered naxalites, on Saturday, he said naxalites could not achieve anything by resorting to arson and violence. "People are worried about your activities. Since we are ready to solve your problems in a democratic manner, you should join the mainstream," he added. Superintendent of Police M.M. Bhagwat said that units worth Rs. 11 lakhs were being distributed to rehabilitate 25 former naxalites, who had surrendered since 1998. A commander, two deputy commanders, four military platoon members and 15 Special Guerrilla Squad members figured in the list of beneficiaries. He also revealed that 30 members hailing from PA Pally, Valigonda, Narayanapur, Munugode, Peddavura, Dindi, Chandampet, Chowtuppal, Chandur, Devarakonda, Nampally, Tungaturthy, Miryalaguda and Halia had been leading clandestine lives in the district and asked them to give up arms to join their families. Zilla Parishad chairperson K. Laxmamma, Collector K. Vijayanand, Officer on Special Duty P. Viswa Prasad and DCCB chairperson Vijayender Reddy were present.
