BRUSH WITH ART: From the painting exhibition by Sheena Rajeev at the Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery going on in the city.

Kozhikode: Sheena Rajeev can dexterously use the brush with any medium on any surface. However, her ongoing exhibition of paintings at the Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery reveals her talent in metal embossing.

She has displayed 10 of them at the exhibition. Most of them are done on aluminium sheet. "I did attend a few classes on learning the craft three years ago, " says Sheena, who is conducting an exhibition for the first time. The exhibition will conclude on Wednesday.

Most of the embossed images are taken from astrology magazines. Perhaps, that is why she has different forms of Lord Ganesha. Sheena has also experimented with a few cartoon characters. Rustic images of women drawing water from the pond and birds also form part of the exhibition.

A lone piece of a different kind exhibited is the work on bangle pieces. It is in an abstract form in black and orange in a disfigured background. "Using this medium is difficult. I just gave it a try," she admits.

Glass paintings, 16 of them at the exhibition, are amazing. Here too, she has deftly unveiled the various manifestations of Lord Ganesha. But her fascination for blue can be seen in some of works, including a fairy and a young girl. A Japanese woman in her traditional kimono is another good work of art at the exhibition.

Among these displayed works is the odd piece on velvet-covered board. Oil painting has been used for the flowers and leaves. Five of the works are in tiles.
