Devotees throng Mangaladevi temple on Chitrapournami

Festival held with traditional fervour

KOTTAYAM: The Chitrapournami festival at Sri Mangaladevi Temple, off Kumily in Idukki district was held with traditional fervour under tight security on Saturday.

The organisers said that over 10,000 people from both Tamil Nadu and Kerala participated in the annual festival. The special pujas at the temple, claimed by both Kerala and Tamil Nadu, began at 6 a.m. and continued till 4 p.m. People arrived at the temple on foot and also by jeep through the dirt road via the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The temple is situated around 14 km inside the tiger reserve.

The Kannaki Trust in Tamil Nadu and the Ganapthy-Bhagavathy Temple Trust at Kumily organised free lunch. The Revenue and police authorities from both the States arranged drinking water facilities for the pilgrims.

A medical team from Idukki was also present.

The Revenue authorities from Theni district in Tamil Nadu and Idukki district in Kerala camped at Kumily to oversee the arrangements at the temple.
