MRPS threatens to take on Congress in panchayat polls

Staff Reporter

`Padayatra' enters Kurnool It is the responsibility of the Government to take up the issue with the Central Government and introduce the bill in the current session of Parliament, says MRPS president

KURNOOL: Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi State president P. Krupakar Madiga has said that the Madigas will not hesitate to work against the Congress in the coming panchayat elections if the Government delays a solution to the Scheduled Castes categorisation issue.

The padayatra by MRPS leaders, which started at Ongole on April 15 reached here on Saturday after covering 1,500 km across five districts. The march would culminate in a rally at Hyderabad on June 1.

The MRPS president said it was the responsibility of the Government to take up the issue with the Central Government and introduce the bill in the current session of Parliament to provide legality to the categorisation as suggested by the Apex court.

He said the Assembly passed a resolution in December 2005 recommending for legislation in favour of the categorization but the government was delaying the formalities.

Owing to the delay, Madigas lost 100 group-II posts, 250 MBBS seats and thousands of seats in residential schools and colleges.

Due share

The State should not have any reservations about it as it had the backing of 11 parties on the issue.

The Government would invite the wrath of the Madigas by delaying categorisation. Even Malas should not have any grouse as Madigas were not seeking any benefits from their share. Even after categorisation, the community would get its due share proportionate to its population. The march would enter Mahabubnagar district on Sunday.
