Nellore
Staff Reporter
NELLORE: After Apache Footwear Ltd, it is now the turn of Mozo Footwear Company to set up shop in Nellore district. "Representatives of the US-based Mozo Footwear Company recently visited the district to explore its investment opportunities. They have now expressed their willingness to set up unit in Nellore," District Collector M. Ravi Chandra said on Saturday. Mozo is one of the prominent footwear brands in the U.S. and its decision to set up a multi-crore facility in the district would indeed provide employment opportunities to local people. Besides, this kind of investment trend would see manufacturers from different countries looking at diversifying production bases coming to the district, he claimed. It may be recalled that the State was able to woo Apache to set up its unit in Nellore district though it was originally to have set up the sports shoe manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The Government has already allotted a 315-acre site to Apache, the Singapore-based exclusive supplier of footwear to Adidas, at Mambattu of Tada mandal for 25 years for lease for one rupee to develop the Special Economic Zone and locate its Rs. 500- crore manufacturing base.
Tax concessions
According to a senior official, the Government might extend the same kind of sops even to the Mozo Footwear Company. This means, it will also have the same advantage of no tax for a 10-year period and will also be provided all the facilities. But it is still unknown the quantum of investment that Mozo will set aside to set up its unit in the district. The official said integrated units of both Apache and Mozo would bring in varied kind of investments in component manufacturing besides increasing exposure to global markets.
