Rainwater harvesting wells inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit dedicated nine rainwater harvesting recharge wells to the community at Mandakini in Greater Kailash IV here on Saturday. The wells have a combined potential to harvest more than 1.4 crore litres of rainwater during normal monsoon. The project has been completed in partnership with the Residents' Welfare Association and Coca-Cola India with technical guidance from Central Ground Water Board and support from the Delhi Government's Bhagidari Cell.

Plea to doctors

NEW DELHI: Convenor of Arakshan Samarthak Morcha Udit Raj has asked doctors belonging to Other Backward Classes and minority communities not to join the call given by Indian Medical Association (IMA) for observing a strike on Monday. He appealed to medical students not to neglect their patients and call off the agitation as it was bringing disrepute to their profession. He also said the OBC and minority communities should form another medical association as the IMA was "coming in the way of social justice".

`Bill fails to provide solutions'

NEW DELHI: While welcoming the passage of the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill, 2006, in the Lok Sabha on Friday, the Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) said the Bill has failed in providing solutions to certain basic and fundamental problems, which if not addressed to would result in utter chaos in the commercial market. The CAIT charged that the Bill makes no reference to regularisation of business establishments to provide relief to traders whose shops have already been sealed or for traders who have filed affidavits as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

Protest against petrol price hike move

NEW DELHI: Chairman of All-India Transporters' Welfare Association O.P. Agarwal on Saturday said the road transport industry was opposed to any move by the Government to increase the prices of petrol and diesel. He added that transporters were already paying taxes, of which 65 per cent was paid for petroleum products. Mr. Agarwal charged that this was a planned move by the Government to put the railways on the forefront while neglecting the road transport sector.

NEW DELHI: Celebrating two years of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government in office in Andhra Pradesh as "rededication day", Congress leaders here underscored the all round development undertaken during the period. The State Finance Minister, Konijeti Rosaiah said unlike the previous TDP Government that constantly lived on overdraft, the current Government managed the economy in a manner that it did not require an overdraft for a single day.
