UP IN ARMS: Villagers of Sanivarapupet in Eluru mandal staging a rasta roko on Saturday.
ELURU: Villagers of Sanivarapupeta in Eluru mandal on Saturday turned whistle-blowers to save the local primary school and Government land from `land grabbers'. They organised a road blockade programme for more than an hour, in a bid to draw the attention of officials to the issue. According to the protesters, the two-acre Government land worth nearly Rs. 2 crores and the local primary school is reportedly under the threat of grabbing by a person. Claiming to be a close follower of the local MLA, he is said to have initially secured permission from the revenue officials for use of earthen clay from the land for making pots and latter created a `fictitious' document claiming that it was his ancestral property. Village sarpanch G. Rajyalakshmi also endorsed the claim of the protesters and urged the district administration to save the property. The villagers called off the agitation following an assurance by Eluru Mandal Revenue Officer P. Sriram that the Government would not allow the school and the land to slip out of its hands.
