MANGALORE: The KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) Naukarara Samyuktha Horatta Samiti and Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Ambedkar) Dakshina Kannada District Committee have extended their support to the agitation launched by the KSRTC Mazdoor Sangha in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Monday. The mazdoor sangha had previously announced its intent to hold a one-week dharna in this connection. P. Keshava, honorary president of the samiti, told presspersons here on Friday that it was imperative to save institutions such as the KSRTC, owned and managed by the Government. The unemployment problem was growing in an era of privatisation. Educated youth, who depended on government institutions for jobs in the past, now found these avenues closing on them and fast, he said. Noting that KSRTC employees were trying to prevent the privatisation of the corporation and also keep open avenues for employment opportunities for youth, Mr. Keshava exhorted educated unemployed youth to participate in the dharna. Blaming the "ill advised" policies of previous governments for the various problems plaguing KSRTC, Mr. Keshava said illegal operations by contract carriage operators despite court orders had not only hurt KSRTC but also taxi operators.
