Work on to link Chembarambakkam plant to city
Staff Reporter
Once completed city gets 530 mld Part of the funding is from France Estimated cost of the plant is put at Rs. 271.61 crore
CHENNAI:
The Metrowater Board is engaged in laying transmission lines from the treatment plant under construction at Chembarambakkam to the main lines in Porur and Koyambedu for additional water supply to the city.
The plant is scheduled to be completed by May next year. This 530 mld (million litres per day) capacity plant would be valuable in utilising water of the Chembarambakkam lake for city supply. This had not been possible earlier as the lake was not connected to the Metrowater pipeline network.
The plant was planned to augment the present capacity. The plant in Kilpauk Water Works has a capacity of 270 mld and the Red Hills plant 300 mld.
