NEW DELHI: Two persons allegedly posing as a judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court and his reader have been arrested by the New Delhi police. They were staying in Punjab Bhavan here in their name for the past four days. According to the police, Justice Hemant Gupta, a judge in Punjab and Haryana High Court, reached Punjab Bhavan on Copernicus Marg around 10-45 a.m. in connection with some work. The Punjab Bhavan staff informed him that room No. 11 was already booked in his name. Justice Gupta told them that something was amiss as he had come only today. The staff then decided to check once again. Sensing that their fraud had been caught, the duo tried to flee from the premises. However, security personnel of Punjab police at the entrance managed to catch them. They were subsequently handed over to Tilak Marg police. Those arrested have been identified as Deepak Godara, a resident of Bhiwani, and Satpal Malik, a resident of Panipat. The police said they were staying in Punjab Bhavan since May 10. Earlier, they had also come on April 30 and stayed under the same names. The police have also seized the Indica car in which the accused used to travel. In order to impress upon the staff, the duo had also been issuing orders and scolding the staff for something or the other. Whenever anybody asked them about their identity, Satpal would simply say that justice Mr. Gupta was travelling in the car after which nobody questioned them further. A police officer said the accused used to carry various visiting cards in their name which showed them as human rights activists and also media personnel. "They have been cheating people earlier also," said the officer. The accused have been booked under various sections of cheating by the Tilak Marg police.
