Alerted by intelligence, police step up security

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Based on intelligence inputs that Maoist action teams are moving in the State capital, the Hyderabad police stepped up security arrangements in the backdrop of the Congress party's State plenary being held here on Sunday.

Though police could not secure information about the specific targets of the action teams, security to VIPs and VVIPs was stepped up, sources said.

Confirming the intelligence alerts, a senior police officer said police did not want to take any chance as thousands of people were expected to take part in the plenary.

In addition to the plenary, the rally to be taken out by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi culminating in a meeting at Indira Park on the same day is keeping the police on tenterhooks.

Additional forces have been drawn for bandobust arrangements.
