30 unemployed youths cheated of Rs.85,000 each

Thiruvananthapuram: Thirty unemployed youths were cheated of Rs.85,000 each by visa racketeers who promised them jobs in the Gulf.

According to the police, the cheating came to light when the youths came to the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport to board a flight to Dubai. The Emigration officials who examined their travel documents found their visas and air-tickets to be cleverly forged ones.

An official said three persons hailing from Malappuram were being investigated in connection with the fraud.

They were identified as Muthu Beevi, Basheer Thangal and Vijaya Menon. According to the police, the accused had been operating out of Beemapally for the past several months.

They allegedly collected money from over 100 youths promising them jobs in Dubai. The victims were asked to deposit the `visa money' in the accounts operated by the accused in a leading private bank. The police have reportedly asked the bank officials to freeze the accounts of the accused. The police added that the accused asked the youths to arrive at the Thiruvananthapuram International airport for travel to Dubai on Saturday.

The police have registered the case on the basis of the statement filed by the victims.

Most of the persons who were cheated hail from Beemapally, Vilappilsala, Vattiyoorkavu and Kodunganoor areas. The police have intensified the search for the accused.
