Directive on compensation

Thiruvananthapuram: The District Consumer Forum has directed the insurance company to give the insurance amount of Rs.1lakh along with the interest to the family of K. Alphons of Pozhiyoor who was killed in a scuffle during fishing on July 21, 1998. The order was passed by forum by considering the murder as an accident. The insurance firm has also been asked to pay Rs.2,500 as compensation and Rs.1,000 towards expenses. — Staff Reporter

Anniversary celebrations

Thiruvananthapuram: Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma, head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore, has urged magicians to offer selfless service to the society. He was addressing the magicians after inaugurating the 10th anniversary of Magic Academy. Executive director, academy, Gopinath Muthukad, and convenor, organising committee, M.B. Sanil Kumar were present.

BSNL scheme

Thiruvananthapuram: The Bharathanoor telephone exchange, with numbering scheme 2868 and 2869, currently working on L RSU exchange, will be replaced with OCB RSU from 11 a.m. on Monday. A release from BSNL said the exchange is being replaced due to technical reasons. All subscribers using dynamic locking facility had been requested to re-register their secret code after the changeover on Monday. There will not be any change in telephone numbers, STD code, complaint booking, trunk booking and other special services.

Inaugurated

Thiruvananthapuram: Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, E.K. Bharat Bhushan inaugurated the refurbished building of Thiruvananthapuram Golf Club and the new Billiards Room and Fitness Centre on Friday. Director of Tourism B. Suman was also present.
