KOCHI: The City Police will take steps to strengthen the entry points to the city to check increased presence of criminals in the suburbs, said P. Vijayan, City Police Commissioner.

He was interacting with the representatives of the residents' associations in the city at their monthly meeting, held at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) hall here on Saturday.

Representatives of residents' associations from the suburbs like Vypeen, Cheranalloor, Manjummel and Chittoor complained of spurt in criminal activities as well as increase in accidents caused by speeding trucks carrying sand.

Steps would be taken to make the two police aid-posts at the Goshree Bridges functional, Mr. Vijayan said.

There were complaints regarding narcotic drug and liquor users causing public nuisance by concentrating on vacant houses and plots in the city and the West Kochi region. Some of the members complained against immoral activities being held under the guise of renting out houses.

The representatives of residents associations were asked to collect information on these complaints along with personnel from their respective police stations.

Complaints against traffic congestions caused by haphazard parking at busy junctions like Palarivattom, rash and careless driving by two-wheelers and buses not stopping at bus-stops were repeated at the meeting.

Assistant Commissioners of Police Sam Christie Daniel, M.R. Maniyan, P.K. Anil, M. Sekharan and Dileep attended the meeting along with circle inspectors and sub-inspectors.

    S. Balakrishnan, president of the Ernakulam District Residents Associations Apex Council, said in the concluding remarks that changes at the helm of the force are expected with the change of regime in the State and hoped that the priorities do not change.
