dated May 15, 1956: Palghat Mani felicitated

Mridanga Vidwan Palghat T.S. Mani Iyer was felicitated on receiving the Akademi award at a function held on May 13 under the auspices of the Jagannatha Bhakta Sabha at the Museum Theatre in Madras. Mr. S. Sankara Aiyar, Vice-President of the Sabha, welcomed the gathering. Vidwan Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, presiding over the function, referred to Mr. Mani Iyer's distinction as a mridangam vidwan and expressed the hope that more South Indians would receive similar awards. Mr. Mani Iyer, in his reply, thanked the Sabha for the honour done to him. He recalled how he was first introduced to the Sabha by Mr. Chembai Vaidyanatha Baghavatar and referred to the great encouragement he had received all through from the Sabha.
