Letters to the Editor
Though the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were a foregone conclusion, the thumping victory of the Left Front and the virtual decimation of the Trinamool Congress and the NDA have reinforced that the communists have provided pro-people governance all these years. The oft-repeated allegation both by the media and political opponents that the Left wins in the State by rigging elections has been disproved. The Left Front's overall performance in the Assembly elections should be an eye-opener for the UPA Government at the Centre to cry a halt to its anti-people policies.
N. Divakar,
* * * The credit for the LDF's victory in Kerala is due largely to V.S. Achuthanandan, whose performance as Opposition leader during the UDF regime was widely appreciated by the people. But for him, the LDF would not have achieved such an emphatic victory. The defeat of the IUML giants shows that the people of the State are no longer in a mood to tolerate communal politics. And DIC (K) leaders K. Karunakaran and his son K. Muraleedharan should realise that the people are no fools to promote politics of individual gain.
R. Akhil Ratheesh,
