SHIMOGA: The absence of railway authorities at the official function to inaugurate work on the new platform at the railway station in Vidyanagar here on Sunday came in for sharp criticism by elected representatives. It was mentioned in the official invitation that Senior Divisional Manager of the Mysore Railway Division M.S. Banswade would be the chief guest. But no railway official "worth mentioning" was present at the function. Shimoga MP and president of the Samajwadi Party State unit S. Bangarappa, who inaugurated the work, appeared displeased with the absence of railway officials at the function. He took note of this and said the authorities concerned were duty bound to ensure the success of the function with their presence. Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa also took note of the absence of railway officials and demanded that they explain the reason for their absence. He said people's grievances could have been addressed had the railway authorities attended the function. Mr. Eshwarappa asked S. Chinnappa, a member of the Railway Users' Consultative Committee of the Mysore Railway Division, to raise the issue at the next meeting of the committee.
