ISLAMABAD: A day before the two former Prime Ministers of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif are to announce their joint political action against the Musharraf regime, a close aide of Pakistan President has said that Gen. Musharraf could resign as President and seek another term from the current Assemblies. In an interview to the English Daily, Dawn a former Law Minister and a constitutional lawyer, S.M. Zafar has said Gen. Musharraf may resign as President next year and get re-elected for another five-year term by the present National and Provincial Assemblies. Political analysts see a direct relationship between the coming together of the two former Prime Minister and the stepped up campaign by managers of Gen. Musharraf on their strategy to get him re-elected. Mr. Zafar argued that if Gen. Musharraf were to resign in September 2007 or earlier, and if the present Electoral College is not dissolved by then, he may, after a contest, be re-elected for another term of five years. .
