GUNTUR: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has recommended to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare not to renew permission for admission of students to nine private medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh during 2006-07. This could result in a reduction of 1,350 seats. Detailed recommendatory MCI letters written to the Secretary, Union Health Ministry, recently also prevent one college from awarding MBBS degrees and beginning of academic activity in two new colleges. The recommendations were based on inspection reports submitted by the ad hoc committee appointed by the Supreme Court and the Executive Committee of the MCI. A shocking revelation of the inspection reports of the committee is creation of forged documents by the teaching faculty to show enough experience.
