CHENNAI: Music relieves pain but that's no reason why musicians should ignore their health. That is precisely why Rotary Clubs of Madras West and North organised a free medical camp for members of the Cine Musician's Union here on Sunday. Music director Bharadwaj, who spoke at the inaugural function, said "As someone who has been in the field for over 25 years, I know how erratic our schedules are." "For musicians like us, there is no spare time at all. Recordings may begin as early as 7 a.m. and get over at 10 in the night," he said. An honorary member of the Rotary Club of Madras North, Mr. Bharadwaj said musicians were prone to ailments as they were confined to the studio space, most often having to sit or stand in a particular position for hours together. "The camp has been organised at the right time. It is a very noble deed." Apart from organising the medical camp, the Rotary Club also used the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions made by two individuals to society. Mohsin Bijepuri, founder-agent adviser, Max New York Life Insurance and J.P. Rajagopal Iyengar of Mefro Organics Pharmaceutical were honoured with the `Vocational Excellence' and `Distinguished Corporate Citizen' awards. Mr. Bijepuri was honoured for his excellence in the field of insurance while Mr. Iyengar's contribution in the field of community medicine were placed on record.
