Like father, like son

Bangalore: D. Randeep of Bangalore, a 28th rank winner in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination 2005, wants to be part of the Karnataka cadre. His father, I. Devendiran, is the Principal Secretary, State Department of Public Enterprises. "Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to be an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, like my father. I took the UPSC examination soon after I graduated from the R.V. College of Engineering," he said.

After completing B.E in electronics he became serious about serving the government. "I was offered a job by a multinational company. But, by then, I was firm on taking up IAS," he said. He was successful in his fourth attempt. "I did not make it in my first attempt. In my second attempt, I was selected for IRS . In my third attempt, I was selected for IPS," he said. However, he was keen on IAS, he added.
