NEW DELHI: Gata Kamsky brought down Viswanathan Anand with black pieces and snatched the lead at 2.5 points after three rounds of the Mtel Masters chess tournament at Sofia on Saturday. Kamsky, on a comeback trail, carved out his second victory in as many matches against Anand since January and third on the trot since 1996. The triumph, in the only decisive match of the day, came with black pieces in 57 moves of Ruy Lopez and took Kamsky half a point ahead of Anand and Russia's Peter Svidler.
The results (third round): Viswanathan Anand (Ind, 2) lost to Gata Kamsky (US, 2.5); Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukr, 1) drew with Veselin Topalov (Bul, 1); Etienne Bacrot (Fra, 0.5) drew with Peter Svidler (Rus, 2).
