Staff Reporter

People hope it will boost Kollam development

KOLLAM: The decision of the RSP leadership to nominate N.K. Premachandran, who was elected from Chavara, as the party nominee in the new LDF ministry, has been widely hailed in Kollam district.

A.A. Aziz, elected from Eravipuram, was the other RSP contender.

RSP workers said Mr. Premachandran's nomination would help strengthen the party. They expressed confidence that Mr. Premachandran would be able to handle whatever portfolio is entrusted to him with integrity and efficiency.

They said his nomination would help boost the overall development of Kollam.

Since 1996, when he was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Kollam, Mr. Premachandran has been popular among the masses, meeting with people and redressing their grievances.

Apart from politics, Mr. Premachandran has been an active participant in social, cultural and even religious activities in the past 10 years. This earned him the title of people's MP.

He is also known to have put to good use the Local Area Development Fund in the district. The people now expect him to be a people's Minister.

Known as a trade union leader with a mature outlook, Mr. Premachandran's nomination has been welcomed by industrialists in Kollam.

A section of the traditional industrialists said having Mr. Premachandran in the Cabinet would be beneficial to both the workers and the employers. Mr. Premachandran, they hope, would be able to effect some concrete proposals to revive the industries in Kollam.

The cashew sector, the mineral mining sector, the fishing sector and the National Textile Corporation's Parvathy Mills in Kollam are full of expectations following the RSP decision to select Mr. Premachandran to the LDF Cabinet.
