ITBP team scales Mt. Everest

NEW DELHI: A seven-member team of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police successfully scaled Mount Everest on Sunday, according to an ITBP release issued here.

The team unfurled the National Flag along with that of the ITBP at the summit to mark its achievement. This is the third successful attempt at scaling Mount Everest by the ITBP. Another team of eight members is scheduled to make the attempt this Tuesday. The ITBP has so far scaled more than 145 Himalayan peaks and has been decorated with several prestigious awards for its achievements in the field of mountaineering.

Spiritual aspects of treatment

NEW DELHI: President of Heart Care Foundation of India K.K. Aggarwal has urged doctors to respect the spiritual sentiments of their patients. Speaking at a function organised at Siri Fort Auditorium here on Sunday, he said many medical schools around the world are now making spiritual issues a part of their curriculum.

Dr. Aggarwal added that there were several cases that have established the positive effects of meditation and relaxation. "The very fact that our body has a receptor for every drug means that it has the capacity to produce that drug. One only has to find ways to heal naturally by promoting endogenous production of drugs," he said.

`Stop sealing drive'

NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Sunday expressed concern over the Municipal Corporation of Delhi continuing its sealing and demolition drives even after the passage of the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill, 2006, by the Lok Sabha.

The CAIT said the MCD sealed 67 shops in Kashmiri Gate last Friday, the day the Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha. On Saturday the MCD demolished structures in Patel Nagar and sealed properties in Rohini. The CAIT has demanded that the MCD immediately suspend the sealing and demolition drives.

IGNOU clears doubts

NEW DELHI: Clearing doubts over recognition of degrees awarded by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Vice-Chancellor H.P. Dikshit said on Sunday that the Masters of Business Administration and Masters in Computer Application degrees of IGNOU were recognised by the All-India Council for Technical Education. Mr. Dikshit said that all degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded by IGNOU were taken at par with those of any other university both by the University Grants Commission and the Association of Indian Universities. "Our students are being accepted by Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, Central, State and foreign universities for higher education," he added.
