CPI warns Centre on pension Bill

Special Correspondent

Political training camp inaugurated

  • Any violation of the CMP to be protested.
  • "Nothing extraordinary happened to denounce the alliance."
  • That the Front resorts to booth capturing, rigging and "scientific rigging" proved false.

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has warned the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre to withdraw its move to introduce the Bill pertaining to privatisation of pension, in the coming session of Parliament, as the Left was against it.

"If the Government introduces the Bill we will vote against it. And, the Government should not blame us if it fails," CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan said.

    Training camp

Mr. Bardhan, who inaugurated the CPI State council's three-day political training camp here on Sunday, said resounding victories for the Left Front in West Bengal and Kerala had strengthened the parties at the central level.

"Yet we are not arrogant and we will continue to support the Government but we will protest if there is any violation of the Common Minimum Programme."

Explaining to the cadre about the alliances the Left Front had in the previous elections, he said the parties had been critical of the Government on many things, but by and large "nothing extraordinary happened to denounce the alliance ... But we are not permanently married and we may reconsider our alliance in case grave anti-people policies are adopted," he said.

Stating that the Left Front's victory had historic significance, he said that despite the talk of anti-incumbency and a slanderous campaign, the Front had been returned for the seventh consecutive term.

There was this false campaign that the Front resorts to booth capturing, rigging and "scientific rigging."
