CHENNAI: Colourful pieces of intricate jewellery, furnishings, fabrics, wall hangings and souvenirs welcome visitors at an art and craft exhibition, which began here on Saturday. The exhibition, which will be on till May 25 at the Corporation Community Hall on C.P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet, showcases authentic pieces of from Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Kashmir, Rajasthan, Haryana and Tamil Nadu. The wall hangings include artwork on rose wood, fibreglass and silk from Orissa and Rajasthan. And there are the detailed and expressive paintings, from Jaipur, made on pure silk. Also on display is Tanjore painting. Kashmiri shawls, salwar materials and dupattas with authentic Kashmiri embroidery is sure capture your attention. Jewellery made from metal, terra cotta, wood, semi-precious stones and, even thread, are an eye-catcher. Bangles from Iman Nagar are some of the exquisite pieces available. Jewellery made from one-gram gold, topaz, emerald, sandstone and jade range are for sale. You get to choose the kind and colour of beads you want for your bead jewellery. Exclusive table mat/wall hangings made of pure cotton, adorned with classic zari work, are available for the first time in Chennai. Statues made of brass and black metal have come from Andhra Pradesh. Furniture such as sofa sets, dining tables are also available.
