VIJAYAWADA: A coconut vendor died in a road accident at Enikepadu on the outskirts of the city on Sunday. Ali Murthujah, 30, a resident of Tenali in Guntur district, was going home from Eluru on his motorcycle when the vehicle hit a lorry that was parked near a hotel, killing him on the spot. Sadik, a friend of Murthujah and pillion-rider escaped with minor injuries. The police said that the lorry driver had not switched on the signal lights of the vehicle while parking it on the roadside.
Jewellery stolen
Gold jewellery worth some Rs. 1.5 lakhs, was stolen from the house of Dalaparthi Suresh, a LIC agent, in Kothapet on Sunday. He left for Hyderabad on Thursday and found the valuables missing on return.
Woman dies in accident
A 66-year-old woman died when a car hit her at her house at Gangireddula Dibba on Sunday. On Sunday, a car driver asked Katta Sesha Ratnam - who was sleeping on a cot in front of her house - the way to Gunadala shrine. As per her advice, he reversed the car, but lost control over steering and hit the cot. Sesha Ratnam sustained severe injuries and died on the way to hospital. The driver is absconding. A case was registered.
