GUNTUR: A girl who had lost her right hand middle finger while working in a cotton mill was given Rs. 40,000 by the mill authorities under the Workmen's Compensation and the Minimum Wages Act. The victim, eight-year-old Sriram Ruth Mary, lost her finger a few days ago while working at the Gaurigari Cotton Mill in the city. Assistant Commissioner of Labour Prasad and Deputy Inspector of Factories Sivakumara Reddy rushed her to a hospital. Later, they convinced the mill authorities to pay her suitable compensation. District Collector G. Jayalakshmi handed over the draft for Rs.40,000 to the victim.
Struck dead by lightning
A 29-year-old woman Vadlamudi Nagendramma died at Pedakancherlapalli village in Vinukonda mandal on Sunday when lightening struck her.
