MANGALORE: Dakshina Kannada district, which has consistently topped the State with respect to SSLC results, has come down to 14th place this year by recording a pass percentage of 72.31. Expressing surprise over this, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Philomena J.R. Lobo told The Hindu that the new pattern of the question paper might be the reason for this.
Analysis
But only after a complete analysis of the results, could this be confirmed. However, many students of Dakshina Kannada have scored above 600 out of 625, which shows that the quality of answers had not suffered, she suffered.
Quality of answers
The quality of answers had also improved in many districts of the State owing to the new pattern, she said. In many districts such as Bijapur the results have improved, she added. Director of the Karnataka Secondary Education Board T.M. Kumar told The Hindu that the examination results were was surprising and need to be studied. He said Dakshina Kannada had never come below the third position in the last 10 years. It usually recorded a pass percentage of 77-78, he added. The Sarojini Madhusudhan Kushe School at Attavar and Islami English Medium School at Ullal have scored 100 per cent passes. Of the 30,667 students who appeared for the SSLC examination this year, 22,176 have passed. Of these, 11,462 of are girls and 10,714 are boys. The district still holds the third place in the State for the largest number of students who passed with high marks.
