Chennai: Close to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's house on Oliver Road, Mylapore, burglars have sneaked into the house of architect C.H. Gopinatha Rao, and decamped with 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and around Rs. 30,000 cash.

Burglars cut open a `circular manhole space,' in the iron window grill in a two-hour-long operation on Sunday night, when Mr. Rao and his wife Indira were away for a wedding function.

Mr. Rao told The Hindu ,' that the thieves had not touched any of the silver articles either in the `Puja' room or from the bedroom cupboard where they had lifted all the gold jewellery.

Following the incident, police were alerted.

Mylapore Assistant Commissioner D.W. Ebenezer and E-1 Police Station inspectors for Crime and Law and Order, M. Rathinavel and S. Sankaralingam conducted investigations on a complaint from Mr. Gopinatha Rao.
