CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi on Sunday lauded the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for announcing Rs. 2 a kg rice, waiver of cooperative loans taken by farmers and supply of an additional egg each week in the nutritious noon meal programme. A resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting of party's newly elected legislators at Chennai. Apart from working for implementation of other promises of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the PMK would strive for the fulfilment of assurances given in its election manifesto. It would work resolutely for making the benefits reach all sections. As the PMK was an ally of the State Government led by Mr Karunanidhi, it would function in a constructive way inside and outside the Assembly and bring people's issues to the attention of the Government and ensure that relief was provided to the needy. The party also thanked the electorate for giving a resounding victory to the Democratic Progressive Alliance. Participating in the meeting, S. Ramadoss, PMK founder, advised the legislators on how to ensure that development works were executed in their constituencies. At the meeting, the party president G.K. Mani was elected as the floor leader. Other office bearers were: K. Arumugam - deputy leader; T. Velmurugan - whip; Sakthi Kamalambal - treasurer and M.K. Periasamy - secretary. R. Anbumani, Union Health Minister, R. Velu, Union Minister of State for Railways, and A.K. Moorthy, Member of Parliament, attended the meeting.
